Understanding and Overcoming Complacency
Understanding and overcoming Complacency.
A dictionary meaning:- A feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble, or controversy. An instance of contented self-satisfaction.
Deuteronomy 6:4-12 gives us both and understanding of and strategy for overcoming the sin of complacency. Complacency begins in the heart verse 5 and is fought first in the heart. When we stop loving God with all our heart we give residency to complacency.
Then it manifest itself in our speech or lack of talking, conversing about our Lord and his Word.
We are warned…guard your heart for…. “out of it (the heart) are the issues of life.”
So how do I overcome complacency? Deuteronomy 6:7 talk about your God and your relationship with him. keep his word in front of your eye and put around you the reminders of who God is and what he has said. “Bind them for a sign” upon your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, write them upon your house.
The parsonage at our church has a brass plate on the door with Joshua 24:15 “as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”
Let me ask a question….what do you talk most about? The Lord used that question to really convict and challenge me recently. So, I ask you, what do you spend the most time talking about as you sit and walk and talk?
Lets, put God’s word before our eyes and hide it in our heart and discuss the things of God more frequently and not grow complacent!
