Frankie Matthews first came to Sheets Memorial Baptist Church as the youth pastor in 1983. After serving as youth pastor for seven years, he accepted the call to be the senior pastor here at Sheets and has faithfully been serving in that capacity for over 30 years. Frankie also serves on the board of Baptists Equipping Nationals (BEN) and is the president of National Theological College and Graduate School (NTCGS).
August 23, 2015 marked Frankie’s 40th wedding anniversary to his wife Edith. Frankie and Edith have two sons: Nic and Zac. Zac and his wife, Mary Beth, have a son, Waylon, and a daughter, Keeley. Frankie balances the rigors of ministry by practicing pugilism, martial arts, and pretty much anything outdoors. (Birthday: 7/16 & Anniversary: 8/23)

Paul starting working as Sheets Memorial’s minister of music in 2010. He not only leads the congregation in worship but also directs the adult and children’s choirs. Along with his responsibilities as music minister of the church, Paul also teaches and oversees the music department at Sheets Memorial Christian School which includes private music lessons, beginning, middle school, and high school bands, as well as Elementary music classes.
Paul and his wife Becky have a daughter, Aleana and two sons, Andrew and Aaron. He enjoys reading, watching/playing sports, being with all of his family, and of course, doing anything with music. (Birthday: 6/9 & Anniversary: 12/29)
Paul Smeltzer became our new Head of School in 2018 to carry us into the 50th year of Sheets Memorial Christian School. He came to Sheets with years of experience in education from owning and operating preschools, to school administrator, and most recently, working with college students at Piedmont International University. We believe that as Head of School, Mr. Smeltzer will be dedicated to serving the needs of our students and families with wisdom and understanding.
Paul and his wife, Teresa, have three daughters, Tamah, April and Nicole, and two granddaughters, Jayln and Norah. (Birthday: 9/8 & Anniversary: 8/15)
Originally from Lexington, NC, Andrew graduated from Sheets Memorial Christian School in 2008 and afterwards attended Clearwater Christian College and Piedmont International University. After serving at a local church in the Tampa, FL area, Andrew accepted the call to become the youth pastor of SMBC in August of 2018. Andrew relishes the opportunities to participate with teenagers in different activities while maintaining a strong Biblical connection to what teens are facing today.
He and his wife, Jessye, have one son, James. When he is not studying for his Master’s of Divinity degree, he enjoys traveling, shooting a variety of firearms, and hanging out with his family. (Birthday: 5/6 & Anniversary 6/15)
Edith has served as the administrative assistant of SMBC since 1990. Originally from Colfax, NC, she and her husband (who is the Pastor) worked in the AWANA & youth programs at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA, and she continues to work with the AWANA program here at Sheets today.
When not working on the day to day operations of SMBC, Edith enjoys working out, spending time with her family, and especially loves being “MiMi” to her grandchildren, Waylon and Keeley. (Birthday: 6/5 & Anniversary: 8/23)
Barry Burleson serves as the Facilities Director at Sheets Memorial being responsible for the oversight and every day maintenance of the church and school. Barry has been with Sheets since 2008. He is also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp (1971-1973).
Barry and his wife Cindy have been married for 28 years and have three children: Chris, Meagan, and Dalton. He loves participating and watching all kinds of sports. He also loves to sing at his church and other churches around the area. (Birthday: 1/20 & Anniversary 10/4)
