Jesus appears to His own
We’ve been looking in John gospel for our study this week and it is interesting out of all of these appearances, John only selects three. And John is careful to select what the Holy Spirit directs him to select. And the purpose of John’s gospel in this passage, as always with John, he wants to proclaim to us that Jesus is the “son of God.” And so he chooses three of Christ’s appearances to give us insight into the divinity of the person of Christ. the first is Mary Magdalene, then to the “Eleven Disciples” (actually the ten, Judas was absent). Lastly John selects Jesus appearance to Thomas. Each of the meetings is to make a case for the bodily resurrection and at the same time for a very direct purpose. Not only just to verify resurrection, but John selects three that reveal a unique insight into our Lord and Savior.
